Epson Philippines Helps Bring Smiles to Children with Cancer

Epson is firmly committed to supporting the communities in which it operates around the world. Epson Philippines has been especially active, with its most recent effort a collaboration with a group of volunteers that aims to bring smiles to the faces of children afflicted with cancer. Organized by renowned local photographer Pilar Tuason in cooperation with the Kythe Foundation, the "Portraits of Love" charity event held in June gave the children a magical day of laughter.

Held in the Philippine Children's Medical Center, Quezon City, Epson provided an L800 photo printer and other support for photographs taken by Tuason. The event was attended by 150 people, including patients aged 1 to 13, parents, doctors and volunteers.

When asked why she initiated this activity, Tuason replied, "They're having a great time; for them, it's a huge party. Everyone is a celebrant here. And for the parents, it's a good break from being in the room, waiting for treatment every Friday. This is something different for them." The kids enjoyed several attractions, including a magic and puppet show, and a football tutorial by Team Socceroo Football Club from the United Football League (UFL). Pilar Tuason took portraits of the children and with their parents, which were printed with the Epson photo printer.

"We are honored to play a part in capturing various moments of joy by providing quality prints to commemorate this heart-warming occasion," said Epson Philippines Corporation's head of Marcom and PR, Donna V. Ferro. We hope that with this small gift, the children and their parents will always remember this day with fondness," she added.

The Kythe Foundation is a non-profit, non-stock organization aimed toward improving the quality of life among hospitalized children with cancer and other chronic illnesses. The Foundation has provided psychosocial support to over 8,000 children with cancer and other chronic illnesses and their families since 1992.
