The Conference Board Leading Economic Index® (LEI) for France declined 0.1 percent in September to 112.9 (2010 = 100), following a 0.4 percent increase in August, and a 0.4 percent increase in July.
At the same time, The Conference Board Coincident Economic Index® (CEI) for France, a measure of current economic activity, increased 0.1 percent in September to 100.9 (2010 = 100), following a 0.2 percent increase in August, and no change in July.
Despite September's decline, the France LEI continued to improve over the most recent six months. Meanwhile, the CEI increased in the past two months, after being virtually flat since January, with more widespread strengths than weaknesses among its components. Taken together, the recent behavior of the composite indexes suggests that economic growth is likely to continue at a moderate pace in the coming year.
