The Conference Board Leading Economic Index® (LEI) for Spain Increases in July 2014

The Conference Board Leading Economic Index® (LEI) for Spain increased 0.3 percent in July to 107.6 (2004 = 100), following a 0.6 percent increase in June, and a 0.4 percent increase in May.

At the same time, The Conference Board Coincident Economic Index® (CEI) for Spain, a measure of current economic activity, increased 0.1 percent in July to 95.0 (2004 = 100), following no change in June, and a 0.3 percent increase in May.

The LEI for Spain increased for the fifth consecutive month in July. Although its six-month growth rate remains positive, it has moderated compared to the previous six months. Meanwhile, the CEI continues to increase gradually and its six-month growth rate has improved compared to the beginning of this year. Taken together, the recent behavior of the composite indexes suggests that the current economic recovery should continue through the remainder of this year.
