GMG signs second round of three-year partnership with China-based Artron

Ian Scott, managing director of GMG Color Management, shares with Christel Lee of Print Pack Publish Asia what it takes to win Artron over.

Success couldn't come sweeter for GMG, the industry's leading developer and supplier of high-end colour management software solutions. At drupa 2012 in Düsseldorf, Germany, Wan Jie, chairman of Artron Enterprises (Group) Limited graced the occasion at GMG's booth in Hall 4 to formally sign the second round of its partnership with GMG Color Management.

"Artron is a very experienced printer and one needs to be able to deliver consistent quality and reliability to serve this renowned printer in China. Artron has evaluated all the available solutions in the market and we are very fortunate to be selected by Artron. It's about standards and quality," Scott relates.

"Flexibility of colour standards" is the biggest selling point as far as Scott is concerned, and possibly one of the keys to nailing the deal with Artron. "Any colours that the client requires, we are able to achieve. But people buy GMG for repeatability and reliability. The colour will remain the same today, tomorrow and years later. It's not an option to be different," he notes.

Scott adds, "GMG in this aspect serves as Artron's colour consultant and set up their colour management workflow from scratch. We work with and support them every step of the way in their projects."

Wan seconds Scott's comments in his position as a customer: "We are a renowned artistic printer in China; that translates to our requirement for a partner who can produce consistent results and reliability. GMG fits our requirements and the fact that we deal with artistic literature, makes it a must for us to deliver the best quality available."

Wan notes, "Many local colour management players have approached us but GMG differentiates itself distinctly with its brand and expertise. There have been players whose strength doesn't lie in colour management, and that could pose risks for our jobs. Service is the third reason why Artron remains with GMG.

"Our print jobs are not within China. Many global artists and art entities (including those from Singapore) such as museums work with us. As a result, Artron constantly faces volatile print requirements. GMG is able to keep up and address our ever-fluctuating requirements for colour, and the engineers are able to be at our premises within a short time to help us," he adds.

GMG currently has over 60 GMG systems with the Artron Group alone, and they are the first in Beijing, China, to upgrade all their software to the latest version. GMG is currently Artron's colour specialist in three states – Beijing, Shanghai and Shenzhen.

Scott remarks in response to GMG's performance in other parts of Asia. "Asia is certainly growing in many regions, one of them being India. However, in the whole of Asia, China leads the way," he says.
