sh:z focuses on cross-location production planning with EAE Print

The Schleswig-Holsteinische Zeitungsverlag (sh:z), part of NOZ MEDIEN and mh:n MEDIEN, is investing in two used Colora printing presses from Koenig & Bauer AG at its Büdelsdorf printing site in Schleswig-Holstein, Germany. In the medium to long term, these two presses will have to replace the current press line consisting of WIFAG OF470 and manroland Colorman XXL presses.

For production and press planning, press pre-setting and integration into the higher-level workflow of the media group (with publishing and prepress integration), sh:z is now also using the print system from EAE-Engineering Automation Electronics, based in Ahrensburg, also in the state of Schleswig-Holstein, at its Büdelsdorf site.

At Prima Rotationsdruck in Wittenburg, also a company of NOZ MEDIEN and mh:n MEDIEN, the EAE Print System has been used successfully since 2007 for planning and pre-setting a Colora press from Koenig & Bauer. The existing system will receive an update from the current version 5.4 to 6.3 and will then be reinstalled in a joint installation for Büdelsdorf and Wittenburg.

"The cross-location work in one system or on one database gives us the opportunity to plan more efficiently and flexibly, to simply move productions between locations and, among other things, to have a better failure management. By minimising interfaces and reducing the hardware to be administered, cost savings are possible that cannot be neglected with this solution," emphasise Thomas Meyer and Jens Masur, who are responsible for the overall technical management of NOZ MEDIEN and mh:n MEDIEN.
