ABB, one of the leading suppliers of automation solutions for the newspaper industry, has announced a further North American press retrofit order, this time from The Columbus Dispatch in Columbus, Ohio.
The order covers new unit controls on all four of The Columbus Dispatch's 12 unit TKS M72 presses and will see the replacement of the obsolete TNPC press controls and Magnum boards.
The commissioning of the new systems begins in early 2015. The commissioning will take place in parallel with the daily production, so there will be no loss of production capacity.
Although neither TKS USA nor TKS Japan were involved in the placing of the order, Jeff Gelfand, ABB's sales director for North America, sees ABB's long business relationship with TKS as a contributing factor. "ABB has carried out 100% of all TKS retrofits in North America, including the TKS presses at the Dow Jones/The Wall Street Journal sites, The Dallas Morning News, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, The Stockton Record (California) and The Ventura County Star (California)", says Gelfand proudly.
The Columbus Dispatch order follows The Charlotte Observer in Charlotte, North Carolina, joining ABB's growing list of US references. ABB will supply The Charlotte Observer with solutions for a web width reduction and a CTP interface.
