Decoprint, from textile manufacturer DHJ International, won 'Best Textile Substrate' for its PEARL product at the prestigious EDP (European Digital Press) Awards held during FESPA Digital 2014 (20-23 May) in Munich, Germany. PEARL is a leading coated substrate that is designed for soft drape high impact graphics and lightbox applications.
The annual EDP Awards–voted for by a technical committee comprised of independent consultants, editors, engineers and other related professionals involved with the association and the print industry – acknowledges the best products in the European market. This award recognises the outstanding print quality, durability and versatility of the latest evolution of PEARL.
With a maximum width of 3200 mm (126") and available in 50, 100 or 150 metres for unattended printing on UV machines, PEARL's coating allows for highly accurate print detail and a vibrant colour density, enabling wide format printers to produce a premium product that will appeal to the high-end fashion and retail markets. The fabric gives excellent light transmission with a smooth surface for a range of different visual effects.
A robust, dimensionally stable media that meets the most stringent global fire retardant requirements, PEARL also appeals to an industry that is increasingly eco-conscious. It does not contain harmful toxins such as PVC resins, heavy metals, fungicides and other volatile organic compounds, and meets the OEKO-TEX Standard 100 class IV for textile materials.
"We are thrilled to see our hard work and dedication to the digital print market rewarded by the well-respected EDP Awards," comments Blaise Humphries, Business Unit Manager for Decoprint. "Since its development ten years ago, PEARL now accounts for 50% of our business, which is further reflection of its bourgeoning appeal to the textiles market for digital printing. This award comes at a great time for us, as we have recently made a €8 million investment in a new five meter coating line. This will support our continued growth in Germany, as well as increase sales in the rest of Europe, Asia and the Americas."
