Next-generation technology is first aqueous 2K system that meets AAMA 615 and AAMA 625 standards with the superior weathering performance of Kynar 500® PVDF-based coatings.
Arkema will be introducing its groundbreaking Kynar Aquatec® CRX latex at the 2014 American Coatings Show, which is being held April 7 to 9 at the Georgia World Congress Center in Atlanta.
Kynar Aquatec® CRX latex is a waterborne polymer dispersion for producing highly weatherable waterborne, air-dry paints and coatings based on Kynar® PVDF resins with low levels of volatile organic compounds. While many coating properties, including weathering resistance, are obtained from the Kynar® resin, other enhancements, such as early hardness, solvent resistance and adhesion, are obtained by modifications to the acrylic component of Kynar Aquatec® CRX latex. This innovative new technology is designed for high-performance OEM applications where outstanding weather resistance is required (particularly color fade and chalk resistance), along with a high level of scratch resistance and resistance to organic solvents.
Senior technical and business experts from Arkema will deliver the following technical papers and presentations on the new Kynar Aquatec® CRX latex technology at the show:
April 8, 12:00 p.m. (Session 6.6): "Tailoring Crosslink Density and Index in 2K Waterborne PVDF Coatings"; presented by Dr. Kurt Wood, a principal scientist in Arkema's Fluoropolymers R&D Division.
April 10, 11:20 a.m. (Show Floor): "Introducing Kynar Aquatec® CRX PVDF latex for Highly Weatherable and Durable Aqueous 2K Coatings"; presented by Charles Weidner, senior business development engineer for Arkema's Fluoropolymers Division.
"Window and door profile manufacturers who are familiar with the extreme longevity and low maintenance of Kynar 500® resin-based coatings on metal substrates are demanding that same level of performance on vinyl and pultruded fiberglass substrates," said Weidner. "The advanced Kynar Aquatec® CRX latex meets this need as the first aqueous 2K system that achieves AAMA 615 and AAMA 625 performance-based standards with the outstanding weathering and abrasion-resistance properties of Kynar 500® PVDF resin-based coatings."
