CPI expands short run digital book production with eighth Quantum

Martin CollyerCPI today announces it is to expand its short run digital book production operation with the installation of a eighth Quantum inkjet web press.

In a significant ramping up of short run manufacturing at CPI, the equipment comprises an HP T410 digital inkjet web press, with a new Timson T-fold. The investment package also includes a new Kolbus KM200 binding line.

Martin Collyer, CPI UK Head of Digital, said: "Our strategy is to offer publishers the best technology to deliver their books to market, at any run length. We believe that the print quality offered by HP's system is superior to other inkjet offerings currently available, ensuring aesthetic continuity between litho and digital."

The equipment will be installed at the company's site in Wiltshire, and could be operational as soon as August.

It will increase the company's short run digital book and journal capacity on its Quantum lines alone to 25 million units each year.

The announcement forms part of a £23 million investment programme which began with the launch of the company's first Quantum colour inkjet line in May 2012. The company is poised to make a further announcement about investment in the coming weeks.
