Precision is chilled about its beta test results

The fact that Precision Printing has been beta testing the HP Indigo 10000 is well known. What isn't, is the fact that it is fitted with a technotrans chiller, signposting that the press ancillaries specialist already have a foot into the door of the digital printing sector.

"The digital printing industry is faced with increasing machine speeds, with corresponding higher demand for cooling", says Peter Benton (Managing Director of technotrans in the UK). "Meeting the demands for temperature control units that are necessary for the current press models, and development of future solutions are the core strength of technotrans. The use of the technotrans chiller at this beta site reflects a closer relationship with HP Indigo. Precision Printing was presented by HP with a list of potential suppliers.

Andy Skarpellis, production director at Precision Printing says: "I investigated all the options. HP had already done the technical groundwork so our focus was on the service and back up of the suppliers. Without a robust and reliable chiller the digital press will not work so it is critical. We use technotrans equipment on our B2 Speedmaster presses and this swayed our decision. The beta test has run since October 2012 and we hardly know it's there - and that means it's doing its job!"

The chiller has been fitted with a tracking modem which measures and monitors the performance with data fed back to the technotrans' headquarters in Sassenberg, Germany. It can monitor any faults and diagnose remotely.

Peter Benton has been heavily involved in this project and he says: "By understanding the process, and the relationship between the press speed and paper formats, technotrans are able to define a solution for both offset and digital presses. technotrans don't need to reinvent the wheel for powering up digital print performance. A successful project, depends on all parties combining their knowledge and strengths in the process. Providing the customer with a turn-key solution for the chiller - installed with the right service support - enables the printer to focus on his core business - printing."

The final verdict of Andy Skarpellis is this: "technotrans are very professional and HP were pleased with our choice because they are recognised as one of the best in the market."
