Kingfisher Press anticipates a 40 to 50% improvement in throughput with the replacement of a 1990s Stahlfolder TF78 with the new generation TH56. It will be delivered at the end of next month.
The Bury St Edmunds company had bought the larger format because it was a second-hand machine with the right price tag but this time round, buying new, it is taking the TH 56 which is right for its B2 pressroom.
"Our old 78 has been a good reliable workhorse for many years, but its showing its age. Given the number and range of jobs we do we need a machine that can makeready much faster and this was key to our choice. We did look at other manufacturers but soon dismissed the as they were not as comprehensive as the TH 56, they didn't tick all the boxes," says Jon Doidge, joint managing director.
This is a buckle for buckle exchange and the company will also retain a combination folder. Both fold work coming off the company's Speedmaster XL 75 and Speedmaster SM 74
"All our operators are comfortable using a fully automated machine so we are expecting the training to run very smoothly and the move to full production to be very straightforward," says Mr Doidge.
"We know that Heidelberg will provide a good on site demonstration and handover. They have been excellent with advice and guidance throughout the purchasing process. Having the Heidelberg back up, which we know from the litho side, is peace of mind."
