Chesapeake Leicester has revamped its gluing department following the installation of two state-of-the-art BOBST machines - an EXPERTFOLD 50 and an EXPERTFOLD 110. The move has allowed the site to standardise its equipment focusing its employee skills on the latest technology.

The EXPERTFOLD 50 is the first machine of its type to be installed in the world. The line is designed for small order quantities so it has the flexibility for quick make-ready times. Jon Drennan, Chesapeake Leicester's Operations Director, said: "We've been very impressed with the EXPERTFOLD 50 since its installation. The EXPERTFOLD 50 has allowed us to respond effectively to a continuing trend for smaller order quantities without compromising even the most demanding quality expectations."

The EXPERTFOLD 110 machine is ideally suited to complex work. A recent demonstration in Switzerland showed that the machine could run at double the speed of many standard gluing lines and offers a significant reduction in make-ready times. "The EXPERTFOLD 110 machine only started production recently but has already made a very encouraging start, said Jon. "Over the last 2 years, we've completely transformed the Leicester site. The two new gluers complement earlier investments in modern printing presses and the latest cut & crease technology. The site also leads the way in the PantoneLive colour matching system which is now being introduced to other Chesapeake locations."

In addition, Chesapeake Nottingham has also strengthened its gluing capacity through the installation of a BOBST Alpina folder gluer.
