GiraffePress stands tall by diversifying with Roland DG

South London print studio, GiraffePress is transforming its business with the help of a Roland VersaUV LEC-540 printer/cutter. The Lambeth-based company installed Roland's unique UV printer/cutter in June 2013, and has been busy since introducing the machine and its extensive range of unique features and applications to new and existing customers.

Says Jason Pavlou, Managing Director, GiraffePress: "We invested in the LEC because we saw an opportunity to expand our core expertise and diversify the business into new markets. There is an exhaustive range of applications that can be printed on the VersaUV, from packaging prototypes to labels, textured 3D printing right through to creative business cards and even banners with spot UV printing and all of these are helping us to challenge convention with our customers and changing their perception of what a wide format machine can do, the type of substrates it can print on and applications it can print.

Part of the world's first UV inkjet printer/cutter series, Roland's award-winning VersaUV LEC-540 provides design agencies, repro houses, printers and brand owners with an outstanding and versatile printing, label and packaging solution. The LEC series can print CMYK plus white and clear inks for varnishing and embossing effects directly onto a wide range of substrates including metallic and synthetic papers, foils, BOPP, PE, PET film, plus offset printing, rotogravure stock; then score, contour kiss-cut or contour die-cut designs, all in a single device.

Concludes Mr Pavlou: "Crucially, what I think the LEC offers us now and increasingly over time, is the ability for us to move further up the supply chain and closer to our customers. The opportunity for us to design and create bespoke packaging prototypes or highly specialised low run, high end products and the like means we are able to become much more involved in the consultative process, rather than just being sent a file to print once the decisions have been made. This is where I feel we can add real value and just as importantly, enhance our relationship with the customer. This has to be the end game for all print companies and we believe that with the LEC-540 installed we are now ahead of many of our competitors in this regard."
