Hachette UK Optimises Business Intelligence With Automic ONE Automation

Leading UK publisher improves IT responsiveness to business demands by slashing run times and frequency of problems

Automic, a leader in business automation software, today announced that second the largest UK book publishing group, Hachette UK, has successfully implemented ONE Automation to automate management and monitoring of its business intelligence (BI) platform. Automic ONE Automation will allow Hachette to achieve greater flexibility and ensure critical workload always completes on time.

Having established a BI platform to gain valuable insights into overall business performance, Hachette is using ONE Automation to streamline IT processing by automating the integration of information from its core IT systems in order to update data warehouses and generate Cognos reporting cubes. Removing the inherent inefficiencies of relying on manual intervention has enabled Hachette staff to benefit from working with up-to-date business reports and using accurate information for analytics.

"Prior to using Automic, BI processing would typically take 11 hours to complete. With Automic, we've managed to get that time down to 5 hours," said Phillip Blanchard, Enterprise Data Architect, Hachette UK. "Also, failures were occurring too frequently and users were losing faith in the BI platform. Automic is a win for us because we get more intelligent control of the relevant processes. Since implementing Automic, I can't recall the last time that data was not updated in time for the business critical reports. Confidence in the BI platform has increased dramatically."

Jon Maury, Vice President Northern Europe, Automic said, "Our selection by Hachette to automate the entire flow of integrating data from multiple sources through to running BI analytics and reporting, is a testament to the success of Automic ONE Automation. With Automic, Hachette staff get the reliability and consistency they need to become more predictive and responsive when analyzing business performance. These are crucial factors in a highly competitive industry sector where changes happening 24x7 can have a direct impact on the bottom line."
