PBL Print boosts its plate output to meet litho print demand

Two years since its move and a year on from the purchase of a digital press, PBL Print has returned to Heidelberg for a latest generation Suprasetter A75 CtP device which underlines its confidence in the future of litho.

The 22 plates an hour device will be equipped with an Automatic Top Loader allowing the platemaking team, who work just day shifts, to set it up to output plates overnight, untended.

"The Suprasetter we are replacing we have had for four years and it has been very reliable, a great machine, but we now need something faster to keep our two hungry Speedmaster SM 52 Anicolor presses fed," says Chris Murley, sales director.

"Digital has its own marketplace but for all but the shortest runs, and certainly for high end colour, we need litho. The Anicolors are producing work for health authorities and hospitals but also for a number of print management companies and, through them, many blue chip customers. We need reliable plate supply."

The Suprasetter A75 ATL will run with Heidelberg's Saphira brand Chem-free plates. The CtP system will be delivered to the company's Chester-le-Street plant by the end of February.

Emphasising its close relationship with Heidelberg, and the front to back use of its kit, PBL Print has company signage which promotes its use of "Technology by Heidelberg".
