Optomec, a global supplier of 3D Additive Manufacturing systems, announced today that the Company has expanded its current distribution partnership with Ceradrop, a MGI Group company. Under the expanded agreement Ceradrop will now integrate core Aerosol Jet Sprint technology into their line of inkjet printers while continuing their role as reseller of Optomec standard Aerosol Jet systems in France. The development is being carried out under a contract with the European Space Agency (ESA).
ESMA, the European Specialist Printing Manufacturers Association, celebrated its 25th anniversary during this years General Assembly held in Mallorca on March 20th with the highest member attendance on record. In 1990, ESMA was founded in the UK as an initiative of several European screen printing suppliers who recognised the need for an organisation to represent the interests and needs of all manufacturers of screen printing machines, supplies and equipment. The initial goal of ESMA was to maintain the growth and potential of screen printing.
Mycronic AB (publ) has received an order for a mask writer replacing an older system for manufacturing of display photomasks from a customer in Asia. It is estimated that the system will be delivered during the first half of 2016.
Computer scientists from Saarbrücken have developed a technique that could enable virtually anyone to print out customized displays of their own in future – in all shapes and sizes and onto various materials. A regular home printer could be used to print wafer-thin displays onto paper, so these printed displays might present custom-designed icons or even respond to touch. The researchers are presenting their award-winning approach at the computer trade show Cebit in Hanover from March 16th to March 20th (Hall 9, Booth 13).

Technology advancements in organic and printed electronics have accelerated greatly in the past years. OLED displays have become a true mass market item. Major industry sectors, such as automotive, consumer electronics, white goods, pharmaceuticals/health care and packaging have embraced organic electronics and are bringing products to the market. Which applications are yet to come and which steps have to be taken next in terms of enhancing the technology is what the OE-A Roadmap is all about; its sixth edition was published by the OE-A (Organic and Printed Electronics Industry Association) on Wednesday at LOPEC.
After three days, LOPEC, the International Exhibition and Conference for Printed Electronics, saw another increase in attendance and ended on Thursday. It was a complete success: From March 3 to 5, more than 2,300 visitors from 42 countries came to the ICM – Internationales Congress Center München. That corresponds to an increase of round ten percent. Several applications in the automotive, smart packaging and wearables sectors clearly demonstrated how advanced the use of printed electronics already is.
