SunEdison Helps Town of Winchendon Save $8 Million By Converting Unusable Landfill Site To 2.6 MW Solar Power Plant

SunEdison, Inc. (NYSE: SUNE), the world's largest renewable energy development company, today announced that is has signed an agreement to develop and install a 2.6 megawatt (MW) solar power plant for the town of Winchendon, Mass. on a previously unusable 12 acre town-owned landfill site.

Space Solar Power Initiative Established by Northrop Grumman and Caltech

Northrop Grumman Corporation (NYSE: NOC) has signed a sponsored research agreement with the California Institute of Technology (Caltech) for the development of the Space Solar Power Initiative (SSPI). Under the terms of the agreement, Northrop Grumman will provide up to $17.5 million to the initiative over three years.

Hanwha Q Cells Announces Over 1.5 GW Solar Module Supply Agreement to Power NextEra Energy Resources' Continued Solar Investments in the U.S.

  • A subsidiary of Hanwha Q CELLS Co., Ltd. agreed to supply more than 1.5 GW to NextEra Energy Resources, beginning in 4Q 2015 to power its continued solar investment across the U.S.
  • Modules will use Hanwha Q CELLS' proprietary, high-efficiency Q.ANTUM cell architecture, the world's first fully commercialized multi c-Si PERC cell in mass production.
  • Cells and modules will be manufactured from Hanwha Q CELLS' fully automated and highly-efficient production facilities in Malaysia and Korea.

SunPower Breaks Ground on 86-megawatt Prieska Solar Power Plant in South Africa

SunPower (NASDAQ: SPWR) today announced that it has begun construction on the 86-megawatt peak (MWp) Prieska solar power plant in South Africa's Northern Cape province. Expected to be fully operational in 2016, the project represents the third solar power plant constructed by SunPower under the South Africa government's renewable energy program (REIPPP). In 2014, SunPower completed two projects totaling 33 megawatts, located near Douglas in the Northern Cape province.

Southern Company subsidiary acquires fourth California solar project; 32-megawatt Lost Hills-Blackwell

Reflecting its long-standing commitment to develop the full portfolio of energy resources, Southern Company subsidiary Southern Power today announced the acquisition of a controlling interest in the 32-megawatt (MW) Lost Hills-Blackwell Solar Facility in California from First Solar, Inc. Remaining interest in the project will be owned by an affiliate of First Solar.

Continuing its growth in the world's largest solar photovoltaic market, SunPower Corporation today announced that it plans to partner with Apple to build two solar power projects totaling 40 megawatts (MW) in ABA Tibetan and Qiang Autonomous Prefectures, Sichuan Province of the Peoples Republic of China (PRC). When complete, the two projects will be co-owned by Sichuan Shengtian New Energy Development Co., Ltd., SunPower's project development joint venture, and Apple.
