That is why Fira de Barcelona has decided to spearhead this transformation and lead the way for all players in the global industrial scenario into this new horizon that will impact the global economy. The new Internet of Things Solutions World Congress (IOTSWC) will hold its first edition in Barcelona on 16-18 September, 2015 and will gather the most outstanding international companies and experts in the sector to offer the most innovative applications the IoT has to offer.

To quickly connect technology and industry, the IOTSWC will feature keynotes from top experts who will discuss the opportunities offered by IoT technology to such industries as manufacturing, transportation, logistics, energy & utilities and healthcare, as well as its transformative role in the economy. Among the confirmed speakers are Prith Banerjee, Managing Director of Global Technology Research and Development at Accenture; Michael Raynor, Director at Deloitte Services LP; and Richard M. Soley, Chairman and CEO of OMG and Executive Director of the Industrial Internet Consortium.

There will also be an exhibition area that will feature companies and their latest innovations but also three testbeds with real-life applications of these solutions, the first of which will showcase how Bosch, Cisco, National Instruments and Tech Mahindra have applied the IoT to enhance Airbus' assembly lines. The event will host workshops and trainings as well as networking and recruitment sessions.

The IOTSWC has established a partnership with the Industrial Internet Consortium (IIC), the sector's leading association, and formed an Advisory Committee comprised of 12 representatives from the leading Industrial Internet companies as well as representatives of the IIIC that will oversee the contents and scientific approach of the event.

A new industrial horizon

According to several reports IoT will become a major driver of a global economic transformation and players in the industrial scenario are already aware. A survey conducted by the World Economic Forum concluded that 72% of company executives believe the Industrial Internet will be disruptive while a study by Accenture indicates that the Industrial IoT will produce 14 trillion USD of economic value by 2030.
