The number of IT jobs grew 0.3 percent sequentially last month to 4,667,800, according to TechServe Alliance, the national trade association of the IT & Engineering Staffing and Solutions industry. On a year-over-year basis, IT employment has grown by 3.4% since July 2013 adding 155,500 IT workers.
Engineering jobs also grew again in June, up 0.3 percent sequentially to 2,514,800. On a year-over-year basis, engineering employment has grown by 2.1% since July 2013 adding 52,300 engineering workers.
IT and engineering job growth remains strong on nearly all fronts. For IT, more than 10,000 jobs were added for the ninth consecutive month. Engineering job growth continued to accelerate with more than 7,500 jobs added for the second time this year," stated Mark Roberts, CEO of TechServe Alliance. "In addition to the positive data on job growth, we are starting to see unemployment rates in many IT and engineering disciplines in the low single digits. While on balance good news, it highlights the growing challenge of a tight labor supply in many technical skill sets," added Roberts.
