In his new position, which Peterson will begin on July 1, 2013, he will be responsible for circulation sales and marketing as well as home delivery operations.

"We are eager to welcome Todd to Hearst Newspapers and the Times Union team," Aldam said. "With Todd's direction, we expect the Times Union to continue to build on its leadership position as the Capital Region's premier multimedia company."

Peterson joins Hearst from GateHouse Media, Inc., in Boston where he was vice president of circulation and audience development beginning in 2012. In this role he was responsible for increased sales, revenue and retention for metro and weekly publishing sites. Prior to GateHouse, from 2010 to 2012, Todd was retention and engagement manager of U.S. Community Publishing at Gannett Co., Inc. in Asheville, N.C. He holds a bachelor's degree from North Carolina State University in Raleigh.

"Todd's circulation and marketing leadership will be of great benefit to the Times Union and our customers throughout the Capital Region," Hearst said. "He is expected to capitalize on increasing readership of our products in all their forms including print, digital, mobile and niche."

Peterson replaces Mark Vinciguerra who left the Times Union in May to become the publisher/general manager at Hudson Catskill Newspapers.

"I am thrilled to be joining the Times Union at such an exciting time in the company's history, and to begin making an impact in my new role," Peterson said. "My family and I are looking forward to becoming active in our new community while enjoying all the Capital Region has to offer."

The Times Union is the leading newspaper in New York's Capital Region, and timesunion.com is Upstate New York's most innovative news website. The newspaper is widely respected for its focus on local news and watchdog reporting, particularly on state government and politics. It has won numerous state and national awards for its work in print and online, and has repeatedly been named New York's "Newspaper of Distinction" by the state editors association. The Times Union also publishes several niche magazines and hosts major regional events, including the Great Northeast Home Show at the Times Union Center, which is the area's premier arena.
