Toray to Feature Quality, Productivity, Environmental Benefits of Waterless Printing at WAN-IFRA World Publishing Expo 2-14

Informative Waterless Journal Available for Attendees

Toray Industries Inc., a leading manufacturer of waterless offset plate technology, will be exhibiting at the upcoming WAN-IFRA World Publishing Expo 2014, scheduled for 13-15 October in Amsterdam. The expo, being held in conjunction with three strategic conferences, is expected to draw broad global attendance. Toray will be located in Stand 11.565 at the Expo and will have copies of its 2nd Edition Toray Waterless Journal available for attendees. The Journal was printed on a KBA Cortina press by Rheinisch Bergische in Germany using waterless printing technology.

"2014 has been a big year for waterless printing," said Mitsunori Hayashi, General Manager of Sales and Marketing for the Toray Graphics factory in the Czech Republic of Toray. "Ecological printing is no longer seen as an expensive luxury, but as a profitable business. As a result, we have opened a new waterless plate manufacturing facility in the Czech Republic to address the fivefold increase in sales and turnover of Toray waterless printing plates over the last decade, and to make plates more readily available to our customers in Europe and the Americas. If the good attendance at our September open house for the new facility is any indication, we can expect to see even more interest at the WAN-IFRA World Publishing Expo 2014."

The World Printers Forum, co-located with the World Publishing Expo, will be held on 15-16 October, generating even more interest within the printing community for the event. There will also be an open stage in the exhibition hall for discussions about The Power of Print that is likely to stimulate good interaction among attendees.

Customer Successes
Toray experts will be on hand at the Toray Booth during the event to talk about the benefits of waterless printing and to share customer success stories with visitors. One example is Trierischer Volksfreund, a daily German newspaper, who has recently installed a new KBA Cortina press and is looking to the increased quality delivered by waterless printing to expand its printed offerings beyond newspapers. "Printed products produced on the Cortina using Toray waterless plates deliver unprecedented quality," said Franz-Josef Hirsch, CEO of DHV – Druckhaus und Verlagsservice GmbH, the print and publishing house that prints the daily newspaper. "In addition, the smaller environmental footprint of waterless printing was a significant driver in our investment decision. Not only is the quality of our newspaper improved, but we are garnering significant interest from outside organizations who wish to take advantage of our high quality, environmentally sustainable printing capabilities. It was an excellent investment decision!"

Rodi Media, The Netherlands, prints 26 daily and Sunday newspapers as well as full-color newspapers for other publishers and printing services for other businesses. Rodi was the first printer in the world to invest in the KBA Cortina cold set waterless web offset press, with a goal of becoming a more sustainable printer delivering affordable, perfect quality printing, a goal that has been achieved and has positioned the company for further growth.

Waterless Benefits
In addition to improved quality and reduction in water consumption, waterless printing also reduces waste and eliminates the need for toxic chemicals in the printing process. "Reduction of water consumption can be significant," adds Hayashi. "A Swiss waterless printer tells us that he has eliminated the use of approximately 250,000 litres of water annually, water that would have come from a key local source of drinking water. The elimination of toxic chemicals also reduces the possibility of contamination of precious water supplies and creates a safer working environment for employees."

By switching to waterless printing technology, printers can save time and money as well as water and trees. Less water consumption, less makeready waste, no toxic chemicals, higher quality—it all adds up to a smaller environmental footprint and a cost savings for both printers and their customers.

"We encourage show attendees to stop by our stand," Hayashi concluded. "Customer stories, advice from our experts and our showcase of a variety of product possibilities waterless offset printing affords adopters of the technology, will help visitors gain the facts they need when considering making a waterless printing decision. We expect it to be a busy and exciting show."
