Production capacity significantly expanded with a new triplex laminating unit and High Performance pouch making machine / Neuwied becomes a Center of Excellence
With a multimillion-euro investment, Coveris - the world's sixth-largest manufacturer of plastic packaging - is expanding the machine park at its site in Neuwied, Germany. With the new triplex laminating unit, Coveris will be able to offer its customers in the coffee & tea and Wet Pet Food segments an expanded product portfolio of tailored packaging solutions.
The advantages of this high-tech unit include improved further processing of products and outstanding, consistent quality. The increased production capacity of the unit, which will begin full operations in June 2014, makes it possible to respond quickly to special requests from customers. As a "tandem unit," it can run either in triplex mode or in parallel, simultaneous duplex mode.
The new technology will also allow Coveris to manufacture new products at the Neuwied site and offer them to its customers - like inner wrapper coffee packaging to preserve the flavor and to protect it from environmental influences. The highest quality processing methods will be available to create inner wrapper and outer wrapper for coffee brickpacks packaging and vacuum packs. To create the desired effect at the point of sale, packaging can be printed with up to 9color rotogravure and can use special effects like a metallic hot stamping, embossed shape, matte or glossy finish.
Neuwied recently installed a High Performance pouch making machine into operation for manufacturing retortable standup pouches. The machine is designed for the fast-growing wet pet food segment. Perfectly finished sealed seams ensure the optimal shelf life and quality of the products. The benefit of this new technology comes from the precision and improved quality of the seal pouches. Among other things, the automatic ejection of defective pouches during production guarantees the high Coveris standard of quality.

These investments establish Neuwied site a Center of Excellence for the areas of coffee and tea, pet food and blockbottom bags. In the future, the site will produce packaging for these three targeted markets, using the best possible technology. With the expansion of production capacity and the increase in technology expertise, Coveris is also sending a clear message that the company has long-term plans to stay at the site - full steam ahead in Neuwied!
