Brazilians consume lots of charcoal, and the bags typically used to package the product presented many problems for retailers and consumers. The material tore easily and often left store displays messy and soiled consumers' hands and homes. With the aim of providing a better solution, Braskem developed, in partnership with packaging maker Acetech and charcoal producer Carvão Cacique, a plastic packaging that allows higher quality graphics to be printed on the packaging and brings various advantages to coal packaging, making it much easier to handle. The new packaging is expected to be launched in São Paulo state in February.

"We believe this market holds vast potential, since firing up the charcoal grill at events with family and friends is a part of Brazilian culture. So we saw that we could improve even the product's consumption by developing, in partnership with other companies, a packaging that offers greater convenience and hygiene. No to mention the visual aspects of the packaging, which can now receive high-quality printing," explained Albertoni Bloisi Neto from Braskem's market development team.

The new product packaging feature tips on lighting the charcoal, grilling and getting the most out of the product. In addition to all of these advantages, the packaging is also competitive in terms of pricing, since its cost is consistent with the average in the market while offering higher quality, since it was created using a resin mixture that provides higher resistance, which prevents torn sacks as well as dirty hands and messy store environments.

"We see this innovation as extremely promising, with distribution beginning in the state of São Paulo and gradually expanding to the rest of the country. We've conducted some informal experiences as tests and the consumers immediately showed excellent receptivity," said João Roberto da Silva, a senior executive at Acetech.

The same positive scenario is projected by Claudio Ramalho, who owns Carvão Cacique. "We have great expectations from this partnership with Braskem, which has provided us with a major innovation in the packaging market. We expect this project to be revolutionary for its creators as well as for final consumers," he projected
