Monroe Technology Center's Graphic Communications class visited SGIA for a day of screen printing education
Students from Monroe Technology Center's (Leesburg, VA) Graphic Communications class visited SGIA headquarters last month for a crash course in screen printing. SGIA Vice President of Technical Services Johnny Shell led a morning lecture, where captivated students learned the history of printing, had their perceptions of color challenged, and were encouraged to ask questions.
"[Visiting SGIA] has presented the students a wonderful opportunity," said Pam Smith, Graphic Communications instructor at Monroe Technology Center. "In class we present theory; here, with the hands-on experience, it clicks."
After lunch, instruction moved to SGIA's state-of-the-art printing lab where Shell, along with VP of Markets & Technologies Dan Marx and Associate Manager of Education Ashley Arneson shepherded students through the screen printing process, sending them home with newfound knowledge and freshly printed T-shirts.
"I was undecided before, but now I know for sure this is where I want to make my career," one Monroe student commented.
