The Conference Board Leading Economic Index® (LEI) for Spain Increased in August 2015

The Conference Board Leading Economic Index® (LEI) for Spain increased 0.1 percent in August to 103.0 (2010 = 100), following a 0.3 percent increase in July, and a 0.5 percent decline in June.

At the same time, The Conference Board Coincident Economic Index® (CEI) for Spain, a measure of current economic activity, increased 0.2 percent in August to 97.2 (2010 = 100), following a 0.3 percent increase in July, and a 0.4 percent increase in June.

The LEI for Spain has increased over the last two months. However, its six-month growth rate has moderated considerably over the past six months. Meanwhile, the CEI continues to increase at a modest pace, and its six-month growth rate has improved. Taken together, the recent behavior of the composite indexes suggests that the current economic expansion should continue into next year, but the pace may moderate somewhat.
