Epson France recently participated in "BROOKLYN+KLEIN," an event held at the prestigious la Galerie Polka in Paris to celebrate the work of renowned photographer and filmmaker, William Klein. Well-known for his unorthodox approach, the American-born Klein was ranked 25th on Professional Photographer's list of 100 most influential photographers.
Event organizers Polka Magazine solicited Epson's support for a project to produce on demand 300 top quality prints of Klein's work using Epson's unique Digigraphie technology. Held over a period of 10 hours, prints selected by visitors were printed on Epson's state-of-the-art printers by Picto, an Authorized Digigraphie Laboratory in Paris, with the whole process overseen by the artist himself.
The event was the first time that William Klein had trusted such a laboratory to print his work. He was convinced by the high quality of the prints, the fantastic color reproduction, the wide color gamut and the assurance that he could control every step of the production process. At the end of the process, he marked his approval for each of the prints with his signature.
After convincing the artist to produce his work using Digigraphie, Epson France was proud to be honored by such a giant of the photography world. Although he originally wanted to reproduce his work using a different process, Klein selected Epson to produce prints that were made available for art lovers and fans.
The event allowed visitors to observe the production of a piece of art from start to finish. After selecting a photograph from the Galerie Polka, they could follow their art through a series of workshops in each stage of the production process including the printing on an Epson Stylus Photo 3880 and the framing. Every step of the way was supervised by the artist, who oversaw the printing and checked to see that the final result respected his original view for the art. All original files were reworked and calibrated by dedicated staff to ensure they met Klein's expectations.
