MWV Introduces Evertain® Barrier Packaging at SNAXPO 2014

Patented barrier technology preserves freshness and offers unique sustainability benefits

MeadWestvaco Corporation (NYSE: MWV), a global leader in packaging and packaging solutions, today announced the launch of Evertain®, the hermetically sealable, airtight paperboard package for foods that require protection from oxygen and moisture. MWV's patented technology combines a specially sealed inner seam with barrier coating to preserve freshness and extend shelf life.

Packaging MattersTM is MWV's annual consumer satisfaction study. This year's research showed that preserving freshness was the most important attribute for overall product satisfaction, closely followed by "easy to carry" and easy to reclose. The Evertain® family of barrier packaging achieves all three.

"Food manufacturers invest so much in perfecting the crunch of a chip or the flavor of an almond," said John Rau, vice president of Strategic Marketing, MWV. "Evertain is designed to preserve those textures and flavors from the manufacturer, through the supply chain, all the way to the consumer, delivering an outstanding snacking experience wherever they are."

Evertain® comes in four reclosable sizes, including round and non-round varieties with customizable levels of barrier against oxygen and moisture. The Evertain® on-the-go snack cup has the added feature of portability. With Americans increasingly eating their snacks on the go, it's no surprise that they want food packaging that is both portable and easy to reclose. The Evertain® snack cup is designed to fit in standard car cup holders, a feature that has been shown to lead to increased snacking occasions.

In addition, Evertain offers unique efficiency and sustainability benefits. Evertain® is 60 percent lighter than comparably sized composite and metal cans. The package's nestability allows eight times as many empty packages to be stored in the same space, reducing warehousing space and the number of trucks needed for transport. And, unlike composite cans and plastic canisters, Evertain® containers enable direct printing of graphics-eliminating the need for excess labels and packaging. All Evertain® fiber is sourced from responsibly managed forests and is 100 percent chain of custody certified.

Evertain® is launching at SNAXPO 2014, which is produced by Snack Food Industry Association and has become a major event for those involved in the development, marketing and processing of food packaging. The conference will last from Saturday, March 1 to Tuesday, March 4. Visit MWV at booth 542 for more information about Evertain® and to interact with product samples
