At Interpack 2014, Bosch Packaging Technology, a leading supplier of process and packaging technology, presents the new Manesty TPR 500 tablet press. The machine is equipped with several technical novelties such as a die table, torque drive and tablet discharge chute, as well as an intuitive human machine interface (HMI). "With its novel design and high productivity, the Manesty TPR 500 underlines Bosch's competence in tablet pressing and offers customers the highest machine quality combined with excellent usability," said Christian Treitel, business development director, product division pharma at Bosch Packaging Technology. "Reduced maintenance efforts and overall ease of use lower the Total Cost of Ownership and make the TPR 500 particularly suitable for customers with flexible requirements."
High output and gentle tablet handling
The TPR 500 is equipped with a new 56-station die table and can produce more than 400,000 tablets per hour, considerably reducing process and production time. The modular powder feeding system allows for more flexibility with a two-paddle design that can easily be upgraded to three paddles, depending on product properties and powder characteristics. "Thanks to the scaled setting, all filling parameters can be easily reproduced, and the tablet press consistently achieves high-quality yields," Treitel explained. To ensure the smooth delivery of tablets, the new "True Flow" tablet discharge chute features an easy-to-clean pneumatic gate mechanism and an optimized take-off angle, significantly reducing product damage and increasing output, especially with shaped or friable tablets.
Less maintenance and smooth operations
Connected directly to the turret, the new Siemens torque drive even achieves high torque at low revolutions per minute (rpm) while saving space in the mechanical area. It generates little heat and has no wear and tear parts, allowing customers to considerably reduce maintenance. The machine's good overall accessibility promotes easy tool changes and cleaning. Turret removal is possible in only ten minutes, while complete product changeover can be achieved in less than one hour.
Thanks to the hygienic design of the Manesty TPR 500, production is completely separated from the mechanical area, preventing powder contamination in the mechanical zone. State-of-the-art off-the-shelf Beckhoff controls paired with an intuitive 21-inch HMI ensure efficient operations as well as easy machine set-up. Due to the improved usability of the interface, customers can significantly reduce operator training time. "The reduced maintenance and cleaning efforts, as well as fast and easy changeovers give our customers more time for their actual production," Christian Treitel underlined.
Complete solutions for powder and tablet processing
Under the motto "from laboratory to production", Bosch also showcases highlights from the process technology portfolio of the product brands Hüttlin and Manesty. These include flexible solutions for every step in the processing of powders and tablets. The laboratory device Solidlab 2, for instance, is designed for research and development purposes as well as for easy scale-up. The modular laboratory equipment can run up to eight processes on a small space: from mixing, drying, granulating and coating of powders, fine particles and pellets in the fluid bed module to tablet coating in the coater module. By utilizing a mutual air handling and control system, Solidlab 2 reduces costs, the amount of required floor space and operator training.
In addition to further laboratory equipment, Bosch showcases a production size granulation line with a Hüttlin HTG 300 high-shear mixer granulator and a Hüttlin HDGC 100 fluid bed system. Process experts are at the booth to present their services, including trials in the fully-equipped Hüttlin laboratories to support customers in formulation development, process development and scale-up.
